SCMP: What recession? Hong Kong start-up sees boon making robots that take body temperatures amid coronavirus pandemic

Roborn has produced a robot that measures body temperature. Once someone’s forehead area temperature exceeds a threshold, data will be sent to an operational centre of the robot’s owner for a fast response or follow-up. Roborn’s artificial intelligence software allows the robot to focus on a person’s head for temperature checks, unlike some products in the market which would trigger an alarm even when someone walks past holding a hot object.

Sing Tao: Hong Kong Develops a Mobile Body Temperature Detection Robot

To prevent the epidemic from spreading, EMSD reached out to innovation and technology companies for the development of new technology projects on fighting the epidemic through an online platform. With the ongoing novel coronavirus, taking one’s temperature has become a necessary action in our daily lives. Roborn Technology, a technology enterprise in Cyberport, developed the nation’s first 5G epidemic prevention smart robot which can automatically detect temperature. The robot can move at a speed of 1m/s. At the top are thermal imaging lens, which can detect body temperature within five meters. As soon as it detects a person with fever, it will immediately issue an alert and prevent the person from moving elsewhere. The robot has already been introduced to local medical centres for trial use.
