Interview by Eastweek Magazine, featuring Roborn 5G Epidemic Prevention Smart Robot

5G Epidemic Prevention Smart Robot is on a mission against the novel coronavirus. To make a contribution to societyfight agianst the epidemic, Roborn has integrated 5G, AI, IoT and robotics technology into a unique system and successfully developed the 5G Epidemic Prevention Smart Robot for more effective and flexible deployment within only 15 days.

Hong Kong based technology firm, Roborn Technology Limited finds that fixed infrared body temperature detection devices currently available in the market lack flexibility and may fail in identifying the target at key places and moments for accurate monitoring. This makes it difficult to effectively prevent human-to-human transmission and  outbreaks among our community. To make a contribution to fight against the epidemic, Roborn has integrated 5G, AI, IoT and robotics technology into a unique system and successfully developed the 5G Epidemic Prevention Smart Robot for more effective and flexible deployment within only 15 days.

According to the co-founder of Roborn, Professor Larry Poon, recently some medical institutions, shopping malls, shopping centers and cruise companies have approached Roborn and expressed interest in the product. ” For self-sustained ecologies such as nursing homes for the elderly, commercial buildings, people will stay “behind the gates” for hours or even days upon entering them. The robot is most needed at areas where different people stay or linger around.”

Prof. Mark Mak, another co-founder of Roborn, pointed out that the most difficult part is to help customers determine the key locations and  moments. “Because customers may not have done any research on where to deploy the robot. Besides, they may assume that the robot deployment requires some mechanical and electrical installation in advance just as fixed infrared body temperature detection device. But we have solved this problem. Our robot can drive back to the control center itself and get the portable battery changed before the battery runs out, so that the system can operate without interruption. “

Mark said that the robot is currently at testing stage and the system setup has been carried out in a medical centre. “It doesn’t matter if the outbreak ends when the robot is officially launched. I have always wanted to help front-line staff and reduce their pressure, using robots to help take up risky work. Body temperature measurement is a necessary means of epidemic prevention. After this pandemic, it’s believed that more efficient prevention method will be used in the future.
