Mark Mak, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Roborn was interviewed on the television program “InnoNavigator ” where he shared his insights on young people engaging in innovation and technology. He encouraged young people who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship to gain a better understanding of the culture and characteristics of Mainland China, contemplate how to pursue their dreams there.
Presented by the Our Hong Kong Foundation and co-produced with HOY TV, the program featured ten influential guests from the innovation and technology industry. It aimed to deepen the audience’s understanding of Hong Kong’s scientific research and innovation through accessible and in-depth discussions on the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.
Understanding the City’s competitive advantages, Integrating into The Greater Bay Area
Mark has had a dream of creating his robotic heroes to contribute to society since his childhood. As he grew up, he devoted himself to scientific research until he had the opportunity to participate in the Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2016. After winning the gold award, he settled in Qianhai. In 2018, Mark collaborated with a Mainland telecommunications company, and independently developed and produced China’s first 5G motion-sensing bionic robot.
Mark advises young entrepreneurs to integrate resources from both regions and leverage the convenience of the Greater Bay Area to pursue their dreams. Each city in Mainland China has its competitive advantages. One should first understand the local culture and characteristics and then consider which city aligns with their interests and business nature to establish their career. “I strongly support young people to explore the Mainland and experience the real and comprehensive China, achieving their dreams within the country!” Mark passionately expressed.
Advance with the times, Leveraging Hong Kong’s Unique Advantages
Mark believes that talents in innovation and technology must be nurtured from a young age. Besides having a broad vision, they must possess forward-thinking abilities and a continuous learning mindset. He adds that innovation and technology talents must advance with the times, establish a solid foundation for their business, and focus on technology research and development, product transformation, and market promotion.
Hong Kong is excellent for high-level science and technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. If starting a business in Hong Kong, it should actively consider collaborating and cooperating with cities in Mainland China to present Hong Kong as a “value-added super-connector.” Businesses in Hong Kong should persistently seize opportunities in innovation, finance, and economic development, fully leveraging its unique advantages of being ” strong support from the Motherland and connected to the world,” becoming a bridge that connects Mainland China with the world.
